1. You don’t enjoy the spotlight but you appreciate recognition.

Going out for social interactions is like rolling the dice. It’s either great times ahead, you feel withdrawn, or even drained of your energy. So for this reason you become choosy about who you spend your time with.

When an extroverted introvert hasn’t been hanging out with their friends lately, it’s likely because they’re overstimulated. They’ve filled their physical environment and mind with what they have the capacity to handle.

Your introverted friend who can be the life of the party has to exert more energy than you might think. Sometimes the mere thought of over-stimulation is enough to make you overstimulated. If you’re feeling like today is a hang out with myself kind of day, you may be reluctant to go out. You’re not anti-social, you just have your moods. Knowing that your mood can change, it’s a likely that you’ll have a great time once you get into the groove of things.

7. You like exploring new sides of an old friend or simply meeting new people.

You may feel that you can always know someone more intimately no matter how many years you’ve known them. You enjoy uncovering the more sophisticated thoughts of your closest friends. It’s also a pleasure to meet completely new people who know nothing about you.

8. You’re comfortable, from being in coffee houses to loud concerts.

Those who try to call you out and say you’re not being yourself just don’t know you very well. Why does your disposition vary so greatly from day to day? You have your moments. Sometimes you feel socially elite. Other days, you seek intense mental stimulation.

Your thoughts may become so intense that it fills your own mental capacity. At these times, small talk feels like chatter and you want to be more respectful to your intellect. You’re not purposefully trying to go against the flow. You just have your own body of water that flows independently.

Some people may not be able to understand how much you can vary from time to time. A person observing your free time at the beginning of the week may find you nestled in working at a coffee shop. Yet, the very next day, you could be shouting with delight at a concert. The key to being able to jump from one situation to the next is being comfortable within yourself.

The ability to reinvent and redefine yourself is a bold, daring and purposeful choice. It doesn’t just happen. You have to make a conscious, intentional choice and then follow through.

If the thought of forging a new path, changing habits, thought patterns and your inner circle of friends scares you – you’re not alone. Change can be a very scary thing. It takes courage, fortitude and a bit of faith to decide to shed your old self and don a new persona. However, it is one of the most critical processes one must repeatedly endure in the pursuit of destiny. Change unlocks new levels of potential.

The Need for Change

Everyday when we wake up, we make a decision. We decide to follow our routine or we decide to go off script and shake things up a bit. For those who are creatures of habit, routine is comfortable, easy and produces very little stress. The problem with this is, after a while you stop growing.

We all reinvent ourselves at some point in our lives. It is absolutely necessary to achieve certain levels of success.

Reflect back on who you were as a teenager and then who you were at 25. Those are two very different people. Most of us are completely different. Your thought patterns changed, your appearance, job, level of education and even your friends– changed. We like to refer to this as “growing up” or maturing and consider it to be one of life’s natural progressions. However the changes you made were purposeful and deliberate.

This process must be a lifelong and continuous cycle. You are never too old to refresh yourself.

Signs It’s Time to Redefine

So how do you know when it’s time for a system upgrade? There are signs along the way that alert you that it is time for an overhaul. The first sign is the feeling of being stuck. If you feel like you are in a rut, you’re bored with life or you need some newness and excitement, a self reinvention may be in order. Re-evaluate your life vision and your goals. Is that vision still valid and are your goals consistent with your vision and–are they achievable? If you are off course, it’s time for a change. If you are not moving forward and making progress, it’s time for a change.

In life, there’s no such thing as neutrality–you’re either moving forward or you are moving backward. Time constantly moves forward and if you are standing still, you are actually losing ground. No matter your age or stage in life– there is always room for improvement.

The second sign that you are due for a change is the occurrence of major life events in which change is forced upon you. Getting married, starting a new job, being promoted, ending a relationship, becoming a parenting or relocating are all prime opportunities to completely overhaul your life.

When these major shifts occur in your life–you have to shift with them. You can’t have a single mentality and have a successful marriage. You can’t remain selfish and irresponsible, and raise a healthy, well-adjusted child. You can’t be promoted to a supervisory position and keep the same subordinate attitude. Each level of success requires something different from you.

An Easy BUT Effective Way That Helps You Sleep Better And Relieve Stress

Traditionally, weighted blankets are used as part of occupational therapy for children experiencing sensory disorders, anxiety, stress or issues related to autism. “In psychiatric care, weighted blankets are one of our most powerful tools for helping people who are anxious, upset, and possibly on the verge of losing control,” says Karen Moore, OTR/L, an occupational therapist in Franconia, N.H.

So, How Does It Work?

A weighted blanket molds to your body like a warm hug. The pressure also helps relax the nervous system.  It’s a totally safe and effective non-drug therapy for sleep and relaxation naturally. Psychiatric, trauma, geriatric, and pediatric hospital units use weighted blankets to calm a patient’s anxiety and promote deep, restful sleep. In a similar way to swaddling comforting an infant, the weight and pressure on an adult provides comfort and relief.

When pressure is gently applied to the body, it encourages serotonin production, which lifts your mood. When serotonin naturally converts to melatonin, your body takes the cue to rest.

Weighted blankets are typically “weighted” with plastic poly pellets that are sewn into compartments throughout the blanket to keep the weight properly distributed. The weight of the blanket acts as deep touch therapy and acts on deep pressure touch receptors located all over your body. When these receptors are stimulated, the body relaxes and feels more grounded and safe, and clinical studies suggest that when deep pressure points are triggered they actually cause the brain to increase serotonin production.

Weighted blankets are especially effective at alleviating anxiety. A 2008 study published in Occupational Therapy in Mental Health showed that weighted blankets offered safe and effective therapy for decreasing anxiety in patients. These results were confirmed in a 2012 study published in Australasian Psychiatry, which indicated that weighted blankets successfully decreased distress and visible signs of anxiety.

Depression, anxiety, aggression, OCD, PTSD, and bi-polar disorder have all been linked to low serotonin levels in the brain, which weighted blankets are reported to assist with.
